OpenCart upgrades

// catalog/controller/checkout/cart.php // changed directly: lost on the next upgrade $data['shipping_note'] = 'Delivery note shown in the cart';
// Registered by an extension; core untouched
$this->model_setting_event->addEvent([
'code' => 'shipping_note',
'trigger' => 'catalog/view/checkout/cart/before',
'action' => 'extension/shipping_note/event/note',
]);There is no single rate for OpenCart developers. Cost depends on the seniority you need, the engagement model you choose (adding developers to your team, a dedicated team, or a fixed-price project), how long the engagement runs and the scope of the work. For OpenCart work, the biggest drivers are how many extensions and OCMOD modifications the store carries, whether an OpenCart 3 to 4 upgrade is part of the scope, and how many storefronts, payment methods and shipping providers must be supported. Share your requirements and we will come back with a quote for your situation.
You tell us the technology, seniority, role and team structure you need. We recommend OpenCart developer profiles that match those requirements, and you review the profiles and speak with the engineers yourself before anyone joins your team. When you interview, the areas worth testing are the MVC-L structure of controllers, models, views and language files; using the event system instead of editing core files; writing and debugging OCMOD XML modifications; porting an OpenCart 3 extension to the OpenCart 4 folder structure; building a payment or shipping extension with correct order status handling; and optimizing product and category queries on a large catalog.
It depends on which engineers with the right skills are available when you get in touch, so we do not publish a fixed start date. Availability is part of the conversation when we recommend profiles, and the start date is agreed with you before the engagement begins.
Because you interview the engineers before anyone joins, fit is tested before work starts. If concerns come up once the engagement is running, raise them with us directly. How changes to the team are handled is set out in the terms you agree with us at the start.
A freelancer suits small, well-defined tasks you can manage yourself. A dedicated developer joins your team under your direction. A dedicated team adds several roles around your product, and a project-based team delivers a defined outcome end to end.
They work in your time zone or with a meaningful overlap agreed up front, and inside your own tools and process: Slack or Teams, Jira, GitHub or GitLab, your standups, sprint planning and code review.
Yes. We inventory every extension and modification first, then rebuild or update each one for the new version and test the full checkout before switching over.
Custom work should live in its own extension, using OpenCart's event system to hook into controllers, models and views wherever possible instead of editing core files. OCMOD is kept for changes events cannot reach, and every modification is documented so it can be checked quickly after each update.
Often, yes. Common causes are unindexed database tables on large catalogs, heavy category and filter queries, image resizing on page load and too many third-party extensions. Adding indexes, caching, pre-generated images and a CDN, then removing unused extensions, usually brings the biggest improvements.
Yes. OpenCart can sync products, stock and orders with marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay, and with accounting or ERP systems, either through existing extensions or a custom integration using the OpenCart API and scheduled jobs. Custom integrations are worth it when SKU mapping or order statuses do not fit an off-the-shelf connector.
We keep OpenCart core and PHP up to date, rename the admin directory, move the storage folder outside the web root, remove unused extensions and restrict file permissions. Extensions from unknown sources are reviewed before installation, since outdated or poorly written extensions are the most common route for attacks on OpenCart stores.
