Our Rails developers ship features quickly on new products and keep mature Rails applications healthy, including the version and Ruby upgrades that many teams put off for too long.
Tell us a little about your requirements and our team will get back to you.
IDOWS Apex is a software engineering company in Lahore, Pakistan that provides Ruby on Rails developers on a project, dedicated-developer or dedicated-team basis. A Ruby on Rails developer builds web applications and APIs with Rails, the Ruby framework known for convention over configuration, working across ActiveRecord models, background jobs, server-rendered views and the upgrades that keep an app supported. Clients interview each developer before they join.

Build a teamWhen to hire Ruby on Rails developers
There is no single rate for Ruby on Rails developers. Cost depends on the seniority you need, the engagement model you choose (adding developers to your team, a dedicated team, or a fixed-price project), how long the engagement runs and the scope of the work. For Rails work, the biggest drivers are how far behind the current Rails and Ruby versions the application is, the condition of its test suite and gem dependencies, and whether the frontend uses Hotwire or a separate JavaScript application. Share your requirements and we will come back with a quote for your situation.
You tell us the technology, seniority, role and team structure you need. We recommend Ruby on Rails developer profiles that match those requirements, and you review the profiles and speak with the engineers yourself before anyone joins your team. When you interview, the areas worth testing are planning a multi-version Rails and Ruby upgrade; activeRecord eager loading, indexes and N+1 detection; turbo Frames, Turbo Streams and Stimulus controllers; idempotent Sidekiq jobs, retries and dead job handling; keeping business logic out of callbacks and fat models; and rSpec request specs, factories and system tests.
It depends on which engineers with the right skills are available when you get in touch, so we do not publish a fixed start date. Availability is part of the conversation when we recommend profiles, and the start date is agreed with you before the engagement begins.
Because you interview the engineers before anyone joins, fit is tested before work starts. If concerns come up once the engagement is running, raise them with us directly. How changes to the team are handled is set out in the terms you agree with us at the start.
A freelancer suits small, well-defined tasks you can manage yourself. A dedicated developer joins your team under your direction. A dedicated team adds several roles around your product, and a project-based team delivers a defined outcome end to end.
One minor version at a time. Engineers first raise test coverage on critical flows, then fix deprecation warnings, update gems and move to the next Rails release, repeating until current. Dual-booting with a gem such as next_rails lets the app run on both versions in CI, so the switch happens without a long-lived branch.
Hotwire combines Turbo, which updates pages with server-rendered HTML over the wire, and Stimulus for small JavaScript behaviors. It suits dashboards, admin tools and most SaaS interfaces, giving an app a responsive feel without a separate React or Vue frontend. Highly interactive, offline or app-like interfaces may still justify a SPA.
Rails conventions decide where models, controllers, jobs and tests live, so developers spend little time debating structure and can move between Rails codebases easily. Generators, migrations and a mature gem ecosystem handle common needs. Productivity lasts as long as teams keep domain logic out of oversized models and callbacks.
Sidekiq, backed by Redis, is proven and fast for high job volumes, with a mature dashboard and ecosystem. Solid Queue, the default Active Job backend in recent Rails versions, stores jobs in your existing database and removes Redis as a dependency. Job volume and existing infrastructure usually decide between them.
Tools such as Bullet and rack-mini-profiler reveal N+1 queries and slow endpoints, which are then fixed with includes or preload, missing database indexes and counter caches. For reporting screens, well-indexed SQL views or dedicated query objects are often clearer than chaining many scopes.
Yes. Rails API mode strips out view-layer middleware, and serializers such as Alba or jbuilder shape JSON responses. Authentication typically uses tokens or JWTs, and the same models, validations and jobs serve both the API and any admin screens built with standard Rails views.
Yes. Work usually starts with an audit of the Ruby and Rails versions, gem health, test coverage and error logs, followed by a prioritized plan. Security patches and the riskiest failures come first, then gradual refactoring alongside feature work so the business is not asked to pause development.
